As Daniel mentions in the comments below, Hit the "Add To Cart" at that first page. If you hit "Learn More" the full page description will tell you it is out of stock.

I did some screen grabs, set them side by side trying to match the body tube diameters. The Scion is around 10" taller than the Leviathan.

On TRF, SCrocketFan commented:
I don't know, it looks like the fins are exactly the same as the Leviathan…
This is 16.5 oz. Estes says the Leviathan is 17.5 oz, so it's possible they didn't get rid of TTW… Maybe 2 CR's with TTW?

The taller Scion is one ounce lighter than the Leviathan?

On TRF, K'Tesh commented:
IINM, it looks like it would be made from two of the standard Estes Pro Series II 3" body tubes (21.5" long each) and the Leviathan's nosecone. I wonder if we'll see a 3 slot version of the body tube available on Estes' website for purchase soon.

The Scion does look like it has three flipped Leviathan fins. The fins have a rounded outside corner. (This screen shot is from the Leviathan instruction sheet)

I wonder if the grain will be parallel to the leading edge?
Well, it's plywood, that shouldn't matter much.

This Scion might be a S.P.E.V. or Spare Parts Elimination Vehicle.
Estes has been running the first four Pro Series models in every clearance sale for a while.

And two newer posts from John Boren of Estes:
"The prototype was made from Leviathan parts, except for the slotted tube which was replaced by another full length un-slotted tube. So you remove one fin, reverse their direction and add some inches of body tube and you have a Scion. The Prototype weighs in at 14.7 ounces ready to fly minus engine and paint. The 16.5 ounces on the web site says it's an estimated weight. Some of you will add several ounces more weight in Epoxy alone and others will fiberglass the model and then add 4 to 6 ounces of primer and paint. There is no way to list an exact weight for a model since everyone builds and paints differently. When I build models to be put on display they weigh a TON since I never intend to fly them. Models I fly, I build and paint them to fly."
"The fins are through the wall but you will have to cut them with the supplied template."

  1. Already gone! Aw, man, why couldn't I have seen this rocket earlier? $29.99?

The page says "Be sure and get your Scion before they are gone!"

I hope this doesn't mean it was a limited edition!

    1. Hey, Chris. Here's a tip for your readers. If you go to the product page itself, it's listed as out of stock. But if you are on the "What's New" page, you can add it to the shopping cart.

I just ordered one, so they are indeed in stock.

OK, now NO MORE buying rocket kits for me until I'm settled into my new place. Unless there's a sale.
