Estes Mercury Redstone #1921 Build, Part 8, Fins G

The fin tip plates are centered and glued down the outside edge of the fin.

The flat side of my sanding block is used to square up the back of the fin and the bottom of the fin plate.

I tried to move and re-center a fin plate. The heavy card stock split.
Lesson learned. It glued back together without any problem.

Chances are on a hard landing, these tip plates would split like this.
The flat glued sides would stay on the fins and rudders. This would make repairs easier, just glue the split tip plates back together.

The outside rudders are centered on the fin plates.
Fillets followed.

On the left are the finished pull away plugs. On the right are the substituted 3/16" x 1/2" long launch lugs.

On the older Estes instructions, the pull-away plugs were glued 1/8" up from the bottom of the main tube. The new instructions show them even with the end of the tube.
Peter Alway's Rockets Of The World show the plugs even with the end of the body.
